Carl Seaton

Age: 28

Sex: male

Date: 15 Dec 2002

Place: Weighing Machine Public House, Wavertree Road, Edge Hill, Merseyside

Carl Seaton was shot five times as he came out of the Weighing Machine public house in Edge Hill, Merseyside on Sunday 15 December 2002 at about 12.45am.

Carl Seaton had been a drug dealer.

He was shot five times whilst he was talking to his girlfriend on his mobile phone. He was taken to the Royal Liverpool Hospital but died shortly after arriving.

It was said that two masked men had been waiting for him with a semi-automatic pistol in Martensen Street. Carl Seaton had been drinking in the Weighing Machine public house shortly beforehand.

A man was tried for Carl Seaton's murder in December 2004 but the case against him was dropped after twelve witnesses that had been due to give evidence failed to attend the trial. One of the twelve witnesses, a woman that had been sitting in a car in Martenson Street about 8 feet away from where Carl Seaton was shot was later convicted for refusing to give evidence and sentenced to 28-days imprisonment. It was said that she had previously made a statement saying that she had been sitting in the car at the time but had not seen who shot Carl Seaton. After the woman was convicted the judge said that the consequence of her not attending the trial meant that the man alleged to have murdered Carl Seaton was not tried. He said, 'By refusing to come to give evidence there is a failure of law and order. It is necessary to mark the gravity of such a failure so as to stiffen the resolve of other potential witnesses who may be similarly minded to default'.

Another youth was arrested in relation to Carl Seaton's murder but never charged. However, tensions remained between Carl Seaton's relatives and the youth and in 2011 Carl Seaton's brother and a cousin were convicted for attacking five youths, one of who was the youth arrested, with a hammer and knife at the Weighing Machine public house in revenge.

Carl Seaton was noted for having starred in a film in 1998 about the rise of gun crime in Britain's inner cities. In the film he had played the part of a man that had bought a gun to protect himself after having been threatened with violence. He was seen in the film buying the gun and practicing with it.

Carl Seaton was a father of one. He had been living with his mother in Gladstone Road nearby at the time.
